Tips for Letter and Essay writing in SSC CGL Tier-II Exam





In SSC CGL 2019 Exam, the writing capability of students (in Hindi or English) is scrutinized and examined through descriptive paper. The descriptive paper is separated into two parts- Essay Writing (200-250 words approximately) and Letter/Application Writing (150-200 words). The question paper comprises of 100 marks and the time limit is 1 hour (I hour 20 minutes for PWD students). This descriptive paper is conducted in “pen and paper” mode. The students should memorize both formats of Letter Writing- Formal and Informal Letter Writing. In letter writing, the major objective is to address your subject or convey your views in a row in minimum words. So, it’s significant to memorize the basic formats of letter writing, as it will be time-saving as well as accurately specific in its arrangement.

A letter comprises of primary parts:
a)   Address Heading – Writer’s Full Address
b)   Date
c)   Inside Address – Recipient Full Name and Address
d)   Greeting – Dear [name of recipient]
e)   Subject Line – Main subject of the letter
f)    Body
g)   Closing (“Yours truly”, “Sincerely”, “Regards”, ‘Yours faithfully’)

3. Write extraordinary opening   

The impressive opening will attract examiner’s attention and he will be inquisitive enough to read the entire story. This will help you score excellent marks in the exams. The opening should be impressive and attractive to introduce the subject in the most interesting way. It should be captivating enough in nature to become a center of attention for its readers.

4. Offer constructive figures and facts
To create meaningful write up of essay in less time, the student must try to offer helpful statistics and facts in the essay. This is an excellent technique which will help in giving strength to your narrative.

5. Be specific and glue to the word limit 

While writing an essay, you must be specific in your writing and also should abstain from writing lengthy sentences. You are supposed to avoid unproductive facts and try not to exaggerate it any point. The long verdict can establish a monotonous impact on the examiner while short sentences will be easier to understand and appreciate.
